ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Economics (established: 1942) is an integral part of Faculty of Social Sciences. The department strives to train students in theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. It also seeks to nurture students to become best professionals in the industry or pursue an entrepreneurial path in their own innovative ways. The dedicated faculty of the department is devoted to enhancing the capabilities and capacities of the students, and thereby enabling them to avail opportunities in various segments of the economy. The alumni of the department have distinguished themselves in both academic and administrative spheres. Presently, the Department of Economics is well recognized in the state for its Programmes, viz. B.A. and 5-year Integrated programme in Economics. Both programmes are offered strictly in accordance with the framework laid out by UGC in terms of the syllabi and structure. Those students who register themselves for 5-year integrated programme but seek an exit after three years are eligible to receive B.A (Honours) degree. The courses offered by the department are focused on both ‘quality’ and ‘relevance’ of the subject matter. This is achieved by periodic evaluation and review of syllabi in conformity with the advancement of knowledge, both theoretical and applied. Department has maintained a well-equipped library. The library contains all essential books and reference material for the benefit of the students. There is a periodic addition of books to the library to keep pace with the new developments in the subject. The department strives to offer a wholesome experience to the students.
